We are currently working with one of the world’s leading global providers of testing, inspection and certification services as they seek to hire an ambitious corporate communications professional in the first few years of their career that is keen to move in-house into a corporate affairs team focusing on ESG and sustainability.

Reporting to the Group External Affairs Director, the External Comms Manager will be a key part of the press office leading the external communications of the business in order to drive awareness and reputation for a fast-growing and ambitious company.

The role offers the chance for someone with a passion for corporate communications to experience the great variety of activities it entails. We are looking for a person who is just as happy dealing with a journalist enquiry, writing a press release or devising and hosting media visits at any of our client’s 240+ laboratories around the world.

The role is responsible for planning and executing media relations campaigns to promote our brand and business. You will be the primary contact for media and manage proactive and reactive responses. The role works closely with other members of the Corporate Affairs team, PR agencies and the internal marketing team. It will also have the responsibility for leading across ESG communications.

We are looking for a person who understands how communications can help our client realise their ambitions and help position them as an authority on safety and testing across a variety of sectors including Connected Technology and Life Sciences. They will have an eye for a story and a nous in which media publications and channels to tell it.

The role will work closely with teams across our various business units as well as teams across HR and Finance. It is based in the United Kingdom, with regular/weekly access required to the London office (Covent Garden).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Run the day-to-day press office with Group External Affairs Director and Corporate Affairs Senior Co-ordinator. Create and manage a proactive pipeline of news, creating campaigns and frequent media mentions and responding to inbound media requests
  • Raise the profile of our client and the leading capabilities and work from their Business Units across Connected Technology, Life Sciences, Aerospace, Built Environment, Energy and Space & Defense
  • Build proactive relationships with key media across the UK, Europe and the USA and increase inbound media requests with top-tier media
  • Lead on ESG External Communications through developing externally-facing content, including customer-facing case studies and industry leadership and telling our client’s story through traditional and social media, events, and our client’s website as well as managing the required communicating external reporting
  • Work alongside the Marketing Team to raise the profile of our client’s experts and help create thought leadership material
  • Drive visibility of key executives, securing top-quality speaking and profile-building opportunities. Work to develop spokespeople and train them for media opportunities
  • Work with PR agency partners to deliver good performance and the support needed
  • Manage media monitoring platforms, databases and distribution lists
  • Assist with content creation across social media to drive reach and engagement across key channels primarily LinkedIn and Instagram

 

Qualifications:

  • Communications experience, either in-house or agency, understanding the core elements of communications planning and execution
  • Ability and experience in building strong relationships with media across multiple sectors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills and experience in the use of media monitoring tools
  • Content creation skills – ability to write for a range of external audiences and voices, creative with social media/digital assets
  • Genuine interest and knowledge of the UK media ecosystem and cycle
  • Confident and self-starting with proven problem-solving, flexibility, versatility and resilience
  • Personable and keen to connect with people with a keen eye for detail and eagerness to learn

This exciting role is paying up to £45,000 plus bonuses and benefits, offering an unbelievable opportunity to work in a corporate affairs team with excellent senior comms practitioners.
