About The Company

Our client is a global organization that champions responsible and sustainable mining practices. They collaborate with key stakeholders across the metals and mining industry, driving innovation, leadership, and positive change. Their goal is to ensure the responsible production of minerals and metals, contributing positively to society and the environment.

The Team

The team is globally connected, forward-thinking, and deeply passionate about sustainability. They believe in the role of mining in driving sustainable development and work together in a collaborative, agile, and values-driven environment. With a focus on teamwork and cross-functional integration, they foster a culture that values individual perspectives, encourages open communication, and emphasizes collaboration with external partners, including industry players, civil society, and investors.

The Role

Our client is seeking a Communications Director to lead all communication activities, especially as the organization implements a new strategic direction starting in 2025. This is a crucial leadership position aimed at enhancing dialogue and trust between the mining industry and its stakeholders during a period of rising global demand for minerals and metals.

The role focuses on shaping the public perception of the mining industry and promoting the positive contributions of responsible mining practices. The Communications Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategies across various platforms, including media, digital channels, events, and thought leadership initiatives. This position also involves new campaigning efforts to align with the organization’s goals for 2025 and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan based on the organization’s 2025+ Strategy. You will have the flexibility to shape the execution, particularly from 2026 onwards.
  • Foster strong relationships with industry members, ensuring collective support and coordinated execution of communications efforts.
  • Work closely with other directors and teams to support the communication goals of their projects, ensuring alignment and collaboration across functions.
  • Serve as an active member of the management team, contributing to the organization’s overall culture and systems.
  • Manage a communications team of 5-7 professionals, ensuring a collaborative environment, team development, and the delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Maintain direct relationships with key stakeholders, acting as a coordinator to ensure effective engagement and participation.
  • Expand and manage relationships with Tier 1 media and other global communications entities to proactively seek strategic opportunities.
  • Oversee external communications and PR agencies to ensure alignment with the organization’s goals.

Profile and Desired Experience

We are looking for candidates with a range of backgrounds who can bring fresh perspectives on the communication challenges and opportunities within the mining sector. Essential attributes include:

  • A strong passion for building trust between the mining industry and society, with a belief in the potential for positive change.
  • A deep understanding of the issues surrounding public perception and trust in the mining sector, ideally with at least 10 years of experience in a senior communications role within an international mining company or relevant industry.
  • Experience working in countries with significant mining operations, with a particular focus on understanding local communities’ perspectives on mining.
  • The ability to switch easily between strategic and operational tasks, from high-level discussions with industry leaders to hands-on communications activities.
  • A proven track record in developing and executing successful communication strategies that have had a significant impact on an organization’s reputation.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and foster collaboration across functions.
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail, along with experience in media engagement and crisis management.

Desired Attributes:

  • Fluency in additional languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, or French is a plus.
  • Significant experience in social and digital media management.

What They Offer

A competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including bonus, 8% employer’s pension contribution, private medical insurance, permanent health insurance, and life assurance. Benefits also include an employee assistance program, well-being allowances, 23 days holiday plus bank holidays, and paid time off between Christmas and New Year.
